Black History is a Lifestyle

Here, at the Enchanted Life, you will rarely hear us celebrate Black History Month. The accomplishments, achievements, and contributions of Black People can not be limited to such a small constraint. To limit it to a month is to diminish the massive contributions Black Culture had given to the world.

As quiet as it's kept

by modern day society, ancient Africans taught the world. Ancient Africans introduced science, art, mathematics, agriculture, architecture, religion, medicine, just to name a few, to the world. Something that we consider maintenance, such as hygiene, was even taught. And, as we travel through time, we still see the major contributions of Black people. The USA was built on the backs of our people. Even today, we can see how much energy goes into downplaying our contributions and accomplishments. To have the audacity to limit Black History to the shortest month of the year always rings true to the massive disrespect and dishonor of society.

Black History is lifestyle. It is not just something to research and celebrate within the span of the month. We can turn on the television and watch the appropriation of our culture, language (Ebonics), style , etc. It is important to see your ancestors every day in everything you do. If it were not for them, we would not exist. We should be celebrating, researching, communicating, teaching about our cultural and ancestral ways to anyone who will listen. Research the rich history of your lineage. Teach the children the truth behind what's being hidden. It's no one's else's responsibility but our own. Stop waiting for permission to learn and celebrate our people. We must be accountable to ourselves, our family, and our community!
